Swatch

Posted on | February 4, 2007 |

Another post so soon? I spun up one bobbin of my gray roving and Navajo plyed it and got 6 WPI. It’s been washed and had the twist set. I was so excited to see if this was going to work for my sweater project (Sensational Shirttail Sweater from Knitter’s Fall 1999) that I had to go ahead and swatch it. AND IT WORKS! I hit gauge! I did have to go down one needle size to a US#10, but I do have gauge. Now I know I can go ahead and spin the rest of the roving and I’ll have a yarn that will work with my pattern. This is going to be so cool - spinning the yarn and then knitting the sweater.

Very nice! So basically you are n. plying a pencil roving? GREAT IDEA!! What is the fiber/breed? Its really going to look nice. You are going to whip that one out–if you concentrate on it, you can knit the sweater in 2 weeks. You are inspiring me to make another one, in a natural tone (mine is red tweed lopi)

Okay, I’m a bonehead and didn’t read that right! (can’t find my reading glasses this early). So you have a lot of spinning in front of you, but –rah rah–you can do it! I’ve never spun a sweater’s worth myself!
