Sonata Jumbo Flyers
Posted on | February 22, 2007 |
I just saw on the New Voyager site that the Jumbo Flyer and Faster Flyer for the Sonata are listed! I contacted Winderwood Farms (who I bought my wheel from). He said that the flyers will be available in about 6 weeks, but that there are only going to be a limited number available for the next 4 months. He’s going to allow me to pre-order in a few weeks and that way I’ll be certain to get one of the first orders. I’m planning on getting the Jumbo flyer first. I would love to have that for plying. There’s also a Faster Flyer, but I’ll most likely wait to purchase it as so far I haven’t needed any faster ratios on my wheel.
On the spinning front, I’m still working on my Brown Sheep gray roving for my sweater. I’ve spun and plyed 500 yards so far (out of the 1200 I need). I’m getting much better at spinning the singles for this bulky weight, 3 ply yarn with practice. I’ve started the sweater with this yarn and am about 3/4 of the way through the first piece, the back of the sweater. I’m really happy with the way my yarn is knitting up and can’t wait to do more.
As the pictures in my last post show, I finished my Solace Stole. My mother was at the house the other day and fell in love with it and promptly put in an order for one for herself. I sent her to elann.com to pick out her yarn color and have ordered it for her. This should be a great birthday gift for her! She’s so hard to buy for and I’m excited to be able to make something for her which she really wants and likes.
And as I allowed myself to purchase yarn for three projects as part of my stash reduction resolution, I’m still in line as this will be my first yarn purchase of 2007.
Oh, I won an ebay auction for 8 oz of alpaca roving. It’s arrived and is gorgeous!! So soft! The roving is wonderfully prepared and there is virtually no VM in it. I’m planning on starting this when the sweater yarn is completed. I see some lovely, soft scarves and hats from this roving. Guess I know what my friends will be getting for Christmas this year!
I’ve also wanted to try spinning silk, so sometime soon I’ll get some of that and give it a try. Any suggestions as to where to start with silk? Slivers? Hankies? Vendors??
The FBS is coming along also. It’s working up nicely in my handspun correidale yarn. Should be really pretty when I get it finished.
Hope everyone is having a great week!!

Carol of the Silkworker (http://thesilkworker.com) has gorgeous stuff. Her colors are wonderful and the fibers are prepared beautifully - you can’t go wrong. WARNING: if you buy one of her silks, you’ll be back. Slippery slope ahead.
