Sensational Shirttail Sweater - humongous!

Posted on | April 17, 2007 |

Well, I’ve spun 1200 yards of 3 ply, bulky yarn and knitted the Sensational Shirttail Sweater. It’s finished and I do feel as if I’m accomplished something. BUT…. IT.IS.TOO.BIG!!!!! I knitted a swatch and was spot on. I used the XL pattern because the measurements were appropriate for my no longer 25 year old body. I think I may have been too aggressive when I blocked the pieces and that probably contributed to the size issue. But I still love it. I am prone to wearing oversized clothes anyway so this will still be OK. Maybe if I wash it and don’t block so aggressively it might be smaller? So without futher ado, here are a few pics of the finished sweater. Pardon the yucky pictures, they are inside pics.

It’s truly lovely. You did a great job. And I totally believe the weather thing. Sunday I wore a turtle neck and jacket to church, but the time we got home I was ready for shorts.

It looks great! You should be really proud of yourself. Sure, the weather is (finally) warming up now, but next Fall and Winter, you’ll love snuggling into your big sweater!

Your handspinning looks great. How long have you been spinning? I just got my first wheel and I wish that I could find someone in my area to teach me a little beyond the basics.

The sweater is gorgeous, but Conner is even better. I haven’t tried DPNs on my socks, either. Many years ago when I first learned to knit, I tried them on a hat. I had no help, and the directions weren’t very good, so I spread the stitches over all 4 needles of a 4 needle set. It’s really hard to knit that way. I gave up and didn’t find out my mistake till years later. Perhaps you’ve inspired me to try again!
