1,000 Cigarettes!

I have been quit for 1 Month, 2 Weeks, 6 Days, 11 hours, 7 minutes and 7 seconds (50 days). I have saved $176.62 by not smoking 1,000 cigarettes. I have saved 3 Days, 12 hours and 5 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 6/1/2007 12:00 AM
Wow, I can hardly believe that I’ve been quit for 50 days! 1,000 cigarettes?! Amazing that I would have smoked that many in 50 days. I know some of you have been following my quit and I appreciate all the comments and encouragement.
I really feel that three things have made this quit successful and I’m confident that this will be my last quit too. I think having recognized that smoking is an addiction went a long way to helping me get the correct mental attitude to quit. I’ve never really acknowledged or believed before that a nicotine addiction is just a bad and hard to quit as a heroin addiction. Once I finally got my mind wrapped around this idea I went into my quit with a totally different attitude. And I finally acknowledged to myself that I am an addict and that never, ever can I given in to my addiction again or else I’ll just be back to square one and have to start all over. The second thing that has really helped is the support and prayers of my friends. They are wonderful!! It’s so great to have your very own cheerleading squad. Lastly I believe the Chantix medication has been an enormous help. It totally wiped out any type of withdrawal symptoms and has kept my cravings done to a minimum. The few cravings I have had are easy to deal with and quick to disappear. For me, it’s a wonder drug. I do have some concerns about just stopping the medication as the drug company suggests. It just doesn’t make sense to me that a drug which is acting on your brain (it plugs up the nicotine receptors in your brain and helps to re-regulate the dopamine production) should be abrutly withdrawn. So I’m putting myself on a very slow wean. It will take just at a month for me to be totally off. I’ve actually already started the weaning (changed from 1mg at night to 1/2mg for a week) and so far no problems, no side effects. So I’m confident that this will be doable. I’ve only had one side effect from the Chantix, insommnia. I know some people have lots of side effects that are pretty misrable. So if any of you are considering this, please talk with your physician first. It does require a prescription and only you and your doctor can decide it it’s right for you.
Anyway, after this long drawn out post. Just wanted to update everyone on my progress. 50 days, no smokes, and best yet I have a feeling of total freedom in my life. I no longer have to plan my day around where and when I’m going to have my next cigarette. I just can’t tell you how freeing that is!

Congratulations! That is wonderful news.
I see (I think!) that you’re using quitnet, too! That made such a difference for me! (Chantix wasn’t around at the time).
Congratulations - it’s a HUGE accomplishment even with meds! However you quit, it’s good that you do!
((((hugs))))

Hiya Sherie,
Good on ya. Think of all the yummy fibers or yarn you can buy.
