Black Friday Dye Shop

Posted on | November 23, 2007 |

We’re having our first snow of the year today, but really just a dusting. It is cold though, setting at 29F with winds around 25 MPH. Burrr! I’m not much of a shopper in the best of circumstances and certainly never venture out on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Those bargain hunters can be dangerous! LOL

DH is out for most of the day working security at two college football playoff games so I’m pretty much on my own. I’ve been reading up on stove top and crock pot dyeing and decided this was a good time to give it a shot. I have a few Jacquard Acid dye colors, but none of them were really speaking to me. I hunted around and found some Wilton Icing dyes I had stashed from my old cake decorating days. Yep, they were still good so I decided to try them out.

I’ve got three batches going now, 2 on the stove and 1 in the crock pot. We’ll compare them and see how they come out. I did have a hard time getting the stove top pots to get to the correct temp and NOT boil. Actually one did boil just a tad, I hope the fiber isn’t felted. Right now the stove top ones have exhausted the dye and I’m just letting them cool off in the dye pots. The crock pot batch has a ways to go still.

Here’s pictures of the dye pots cooking… more to come later.

oooh pretty pretty pretty. Can’t wait to see how they dry. I hear ya on the cold thing. We are getting snow flurries right now and expecting more through the weekend. Shopping was not bad this year. I only went one place but it was like a nrmal day. Breezed right through.

That looks great! I’m not getting any spinning or dyeing done right now, just some knitting. I had Thanksgiving here, and I’ll have the family Christmas on the 22nd. We’re going all out this year since we have two first Christmas babies and since both holidays last year were slighted because my DD was on bedrest.

I haven’t done any “holiday” knitting, but I do have a couple of sweaters underway for myself and a pair of socks for DH.

I’m always impressed by how much you seem to get done–and it looks so great, too.
