Italian Ice - a spinning progression
Posted on | November 24, 2007 |
Here’s the progression of my three ply experiment. Not shown, but I took two lots of corriedale fiber and dyed one hot pink and one neon green with Jacquard Acid dyes. Then I added an equal amount of undyed fiber. Next, I ran the dyed fiber through my drum carder - it was a bit compacted from my novice dye job! Each color was spun up as a single and then the three were plyed together. I had only done Navajo plying prior to this and wanted to try a “true” three ply yarn.
I’m quite happy with how the yarn turned out. It’s interesting to see the way the three singles combine together. It may be the way I was holding the singles as I plyed, but some parts show more pink and some more green. Overall an great learning experience.
Yarn Stats: 346 yards, 12 WPI, 3 ply
