Does this make me a “real” photographer?

I won an eBay auction last week for a photography lightbox and it just arrived today. So, of course I had to take a ton of pictures to try it out. I think it’s working just fine and it only cost $3.25 w/free shipping! You can’t beat that. The only thing is that the backgrounds included were blue and red, no white. I’m pretty sure I can fix something up to serve as a white background though. Anyway, here’s my newest items and pictures.

Remember my dyeing day last weekend? Here are the finished rovings.

First we have 4.8 oz of brown sheep mill end roving which was dyed on the stove top using Wilton’s Icing dye. There are two lengths of this fiber, one is mostly teal; the second is teal and rose. I think I didn’t let the dye flow all the way to the bottom of the pot! The 2nd fiber has two braids, one is 1.1oz the second is 1.0 oz. Both were dyed on the stove at the same time. This fiber is brown sheep mill end roving. It’s extremely soft. Each braid is one continuous length of roving which is about 2″ wide. Lastly I have 3.8 oz Corriedale roving dyed again with Wilton’s icind dye. This one was dyed in the crock pot and I’m totally in love with the way it came out.

I enjoyed trying out the stove top and crock pot dyeing. I really like using the crockpot the best. Even though it takes longer, it’s much easier to control the temperature. On the stove top I had a hard time achieving the target temp and maintaining it without boiling the fiber. Luckily none of it felted.

Here are my latest spinning projects. The first yarn I’ve named Heather Mist. It was spun from 8oz of “kitchen sink” roving I purchased at the Taos Wool Festival. There’s an unknown mixture of wool, angora and mohair. It was so soft and pleasant to spin. There are 332 yards of 2 ply yarn, 10WPI.

Second in line is the Spunky Eclectic fiber club October offering, Goblin Eyes. I spun 8oz of this lovely Romney wool into 11WPI singles, there are 326 yards in the skein. I love it! I notice that the class I took at Taos on spinning bulky singles is really paying off. I’m able to get these singles just right, not overspun and not falling apart either. Yeah me! LOL The class was taught by John Pitblado and he was terrific.

I guess that’s about all for this time. Thanks for dropping by!
