New fibery pursuit!

I have now officially gone over to the fibery dark side! As if knitting and carding and spinning aren’t enough, I’ve purchased a loom! I’m gonna be a weaver too! I’ve been thinking about learning to weave for about a year now and finally decided to take the plunge. I’ve just purchased a Kromski Harp rigid heddle loom. I decided on a rigid heddle as I wanted to get my feet wet without spending quite so much money. Plus right now I just don’t have a place to put a big gigantic floor loom. My new toy came yesterday and I spent most of last night putting it and the stand together. I was so excited I forgot to take pictures, but here’s a stock picture of the loom on the stand:

I started wrapping the warp last night and should be able to finish it tonight. So I’ll take some pictures when the wrap is done and when I start weaving. This first project is for learning, experimenting and figuring things out. I’m using Sugar n’Cream for both the warp and weft. Check back this weekend to see how I do.

  1. woo hoo…can’t wait to see. Am warping my loom today in hopes to have the energy to weave an ordered scarf.

  2. Yay! You will love it! I’m warping with some cotton this weekend too - hoping for a dishtowel that I can actually use. ;)

  3. Guess they are all in the family in some way or other. I haven’t tried spinning or weaving yet. I’m afraid I will never knit again if I do and I am already one crazy obsessed knitter. If I take up another hobby I will never sleep again.

    Have fun!

  4. Did you know anything about weaving before you began? Because I had planned to get a Harp either next month or in April (depending on taxes). I really want to make a few things out of stash yarn, and I’m about the slowest knitter ever. I thought perhaps weaving might be helpful in that case so…. I really look forward to your projects!

  5. As an owner of 3 floor looms and 2 table looms, I hope you like it as much as I do. I also knit and crochet. I am leaning how to spin and CSM. There is always something new to learn. Fun in Fiber.
