Cabled Yarn
Posted on | September 7, 2008 |
I finally tried my hand at spinning a cabled yarn. It wasn’t too difficult, just a bit time consuming and it sure uses up a lot of fiber. This is BFL which was hand dyed by me. I then divided up the fiber into four portions which weighed the same. I spun four bobbins from this, then I did two 2ply yarns. Next the two 2ply yarns were plyed together. Voila - cabled yarn. It’s really an interesting construction to look at. The finished yarn is soft and springy, as any BFL would be. Mine was a bit overplyed, but a good wash and whack fixed that. Overall, I’m pleased with this yarn, but as I only got 158 yards from 3.8 oz of fiber I would need to have a specific reason to spin it again.
