The Return of Weaving Mojo!

Posted on | December 3, 2008 |

I purchased a Kromski Harp RH (rigid heddle) loom quite a while back. I did a few sample weavings then ordered a kit. The kit was for dishcloths, in 10/2 cotton thread. I warped the loom, wove 2 of the 4 dishcloths and totally lost interest. The fine thread was taking FOREVER to weave and I just could not make myself work on it. After a few months I gave up in disgust and cut the project off the loom. I was thinking I had made a big mistake in purchasing the silly loom in the first place.

I received the new Spin-Off magazine last Friday. They have a lovely gallery of scarves woven with handspun yarns and then felted. I totally fell in love with the project. I dug through the stash and found some handspun dark brown corriedale and another skein of handspun merion/silk yarn in a tweedy yellow color. I immediately warped the loom (only took about 45″ for this little project) and started weaving. The pattern calls for large open areas so the weaving went really fast. In less than 24 hours I had woven the scarf, felted it in the washing machine and laid it out for blocking! My weaving mojo has returned! This is a fast and fun project and I heartily recommend it. the pattern is available online if you don’t get Spin-Off magazines: Spaced Out Felted Scarf.

That’s quite impressive! I wondered how the weaving was coming along.

I love, love, love it! It makes me think of chocolate-banana, and it looks so snuggly soft.

OOOh is that ever beautiful! I just re-found my weaving mojo. If the thing would warp itself I’d be weaving all the time… but…

I want to give that scarf a try, it looks beautiful.
