LOOM!

It’s here! It’s here! My new floor loom has arrived finally. Actually, the shipping time wasn’t too bad, it left New Hampshire last Thursday and it arrived today (Wednesday). I have purchased a new Harrisville Loom. It is 36″ weaving width and has 8 harnesses. I bought the kit, so DH and I have to sand the pieces, oil them and then assemble the loom. I think it’s going to be just fine and it saved a TON of money doing it this way. I must say that the kit is totally complete - down to sandpaper, oil and screwdrivers! The directions are very easy to read and have good illustrations. One thing that really impressed me was the way the washers, bolts, screws, etc are all packaged in individual baggies with the contents on the front label! And they are coded - you know which baggie to get for each part of the assembly instructions. Beats getting one huge bag of screws and trying to figure out which one is which.
DH and I have unloaded the box and sanded all the pieces already. Next we must wipe down the pieces and apply the first coat of oil. Per the instructions, you apply the first coat of oil and wait 30″ and then apply the second coat. I have been advised to sand between coats of oil with very fine sandpaper. I think I will see how much the grain lifts with the first coat and sand as needed.
Here are pictures of the process so far, you can click on each one to see a larger version.
These are the items in the “studio kit” which came included with my loom - there are 5 cones of Harrisville Shetland yarn, a bench, a tool tray, a warping board, two shuttles, 10 bobbins and a bobbin winder.

Tomorrow the oiling!

Yay! A loom. I love it and the goodies that were included. I’ll keeping an eye on your blog to see if I dare tackle the ‘kit’. I talked with my husband about it during our anniversary dinner out (42 yrs, gasp) and he thought the sanding and oiling wouldn’t be bad, and I said I thought the putting together wouldn’t be bad. LOL

Congratulations on the new arrival! It’s amazing to think that those few boxes could hold an entire loom, bench and accessories.
Can’t wait to see more progress photos.
