Loom - Day 4 - Completed!
Posted on | June 20, 2009 |
Yeah, the loom is now fully assembled! Another 3 hours today to finish it, DH couldn’t help this morning so it took a little longer. Total assembly time was about 6 hours for us. Overall the kit was very well done and the instructions were easy to follow. I did find a couple of mistakes in the instructions, really steps left out. There was also a part where the instructions were talking about the “leathers.” Evidently the looms used to have leather cables and that has now changed. It took me a while to determine which cables took the place of the leathers. I’m sure someone with more experience would have figured it out a lot sooner! I’m glad I got the kit and would do it again, I think it was well worth the $$ saved.

I had a request to show the Harrisville bench so here it is:

The storage area under the seat

This is the brace the seat sits on, one side is flat and the seat is stationary, one side is not flat and the seat will rock

The seat height can be adjusted by moving the supporting blocks

What an adventure lies ahead! It is beautiful isn’t it?! Do you have a first project in mind?

Looks great! Re: the rocking seat–The spinning teacher I took classes from a couple of summers ago had a double treadle Schact Matchless. For a spinning chair she used an antique sewing rocker. You know what I mean? The kind with a needlepoint seat and no arms? As she treadled, she rocked a little.
Keep us posted on your weaving adventure!

Looks AWESOME!!!! Now to see it warped and you weaving. Can’t wait. I ordered a new wheel today and should hopefully have it on Wednesday. I’ll be “oiling” it up and putting it together next week so stay tuned for that adventure.

It’s beautiful. Can’t wait to hear what you think of it. I looked at those online, too. I am dying to go somewhere to compare looms…no place really close that I am aware of.

It’s beautiful!
So… the bench is supposed to be mostly open, so the top doesn’t have to be hinged?

Looking forward to hearing how it weaves. When are you putting a warp on it?
