I Made Fabric!

Posted on | July 1, 2009 |

The first real project on the Harrisville loom is now complete. When DH picked one of the towels up he said, “Hey, you made fabric!” LOL They are a bit homely and the hems are a bit funky, but I’m totally proud of my towels. I’m so surprised by how much the material changed after a wash and dry. It’s really pretty dense and very soft. They will be perfect for just about any job from dish drying to face drying to furniture polishing.

Warp and Weft - 8/2 cotton (pink), cotton chenille (brown)
20 EPI / 234 ends - includes floating selvedges
rolled hems - kinda wonky, but next time they will be better
Before washing 12″W x 15″L with 2″ hems on each end
After washing 9.5″W x 13″L

No, No! Not funky, not homely, but really beautiful. I can’t wait to start mine. Would you ever use the chenille for the weft as well for a checked look?

I love the way those look. I think you said the chenille was a little more difficult to work with–was that you?–but they look really soft.
