Lap Cloth and the end of TdF

Posted on | July 10, 2009 |

I’ve completed my second project on the new loom - lap cloths for spinners. It’s a cloth to lay across your LAP while spinning. LOL Woven in a 1/3 broken twill - one side is predominantly white, the other predominantly black. It’s meant to keep the fibery stuff off your clothes and by using a contrast it also helps you see your fiber better. One side was folded up to form a pocket. The pattern was in an eBook I downloaded from Interweave.com. 5/2 pearl cotton, 20 EPI, 322 ends, FS. My selvedges still are not perfect, but they are improving.

On the Tour de Fleece front, I think I’m going to give myself permission to drop out. I’ve lasted a number of days, but it is now becoming a chore and feels like work to spin when I’m not in a spinning mood. I have a full time job and that’s enough work for me! I have always enjoyed my fiber hobbies and use them for relaxation and fun. Since the PRESSURE of the TdF is taking away my fun I believe I’ll just stop. I’ll still spin, but I won’t feel obligated to do it every day! Whew! I feel better already and now I WANT to go spin. LOLOL

Here’s the Rosebud handspun after washing and drying. I haven’t re-skeined yet so I don’t have yardage or WPI.

Looks very good. A great idea, too. I’ll have to try to find that pattern. Can’t remember if I told you I bought an “old” Kessenich floor loom. Just bought some texsolv to replace tie up chains & tied up. Reed is pure rust-have to order new one & do some oiling & I will test drive it. Cross your fingers.

I had read about lapcloths, but not about weaving one. That looks really nice!

I love the lapcloth, and the handspun.

I spin every day anyway (can’t remember the last time I skipped a day - must have been sick in bed!) but my production ebbs and flows with my other activities. What I dislike is feeling obligated to take pictures every day of what I’ve spun - so I gave myself permission to spin without documentation. Rebels unite!
