Dishtowels WIP

Posted on | July 19, 2009 |

My second loom project has been dishtowels. I wove three and then a “runt” with what was left on the warp. I haven’t finished all the towels yet, but I wanted to show off the runt. These towels are a lesson in hems for me, I’ve tried a new technique. I hemstitched the hems while the towels were still on the loom. I cut off the runt towel and then hand-stitched the hem before washing to see if there was any funky shrinkage or draw-in. Nope. The hem looks just fine. Now I just have to decide if all the time it takes to hemstitch on the loom and hand-stitch the hems is worth it. I don’t like to sew on the machine, but time-wise it may be silly to do all the handwork. I think I may machine stitch the 3 regular size towels I have and compare the hems. Here are a few pics of the runt towel and it’s hems.

I’ll post all the details when I do the photo shoot for the finished full-sized towels.

How pretty! Go with the machine seams-they will last longer, too. Great job weaving!
