And the beat goes on…

Following my enchantment with the new loom here’s my newest weaving project.
Gamp Shadow Weave Table Runner
Pattern: Handwoven Magazine Jan/Feb 2004
8/2 unmercerized cotton
489 ends, 24 EPI, 20 PPI
Finished size 46” x 19”
unfortunately I forgot to measure it prior to wet finishing so I am not sure about how much it shrank, also I accidently left off a weft repeat so it is a little shorter than the pattern called for

I’m very happy with this project, it was quite challenging for me in the threading and in the weaving and I learned so much doing it. The only thing I would change would be to add floating selvedges to it. There are some pretty long floats on the edges that I think look bad in the finished runner. Note that there is probably a way to fix these floats but I don’t know what that is, I need to do a bit of research. I’m considering adding a crocheted border or a skinny bias tape border to the piece.

Your project looks great!!! Like it came out of a magazine itself!!

I couldn’t tell from the pictures what the edges look like or what you wish to improve.

If it’s just in a few areas, you can sometimes use a needle and a warp thread, or a thinner thread, to tighten things up. If it’s all along the runner then I’m not so sure.

Actually, I think Lynnette blogged about inserting additional selvedge threads after the fact. That might help in your case. Here’s where she talks briefly about what she did. If that sounds like it might help and you have questions for her, I’m sure she’d be happy to describe more.

Good luck!! I think your project looks great!

Gorgeous! I love the complexity, and I’m so proud of your swift weaving improvement!

I use floating selvedges - I’m using them on the towels I’m weaving now. They make a big difference. Your floats might be caused by not crossing your threads between shuttles - I don’t see ‘em, so can’t make much of a diagnosis. Like I said elsewhere, though - I’ll bet they’re more apparent to the weaver than to anyone else.

High five yourself-this is amazing! I need to learn about floating selvedges, too!
